Belvedere Christmas market 2026 dates are 20 November to 31 December, with free entry, but the market no longer stands in front of the palace. The old Weihnachtsdorf of about 40 huts ended in 2025, and the new K&K Christmas Market Belvedere Palace has at most 35 huts, across the large pond in the Teichhof. It is one of only three markets in our 2026 guide still open on 27 December. From Kettenbrückengasse at the Naschmarkt it is 16 to 19 minutes by U4 and tram D.

The market no longer stands directly in front of the Upper Belvedere, but in the Teichhof, the courtyard on the palace's south side, at the end of the large pond towards the Gürtel. It moved to make room for works on an underground visitor centre planned from 2028 at the earliest. The huts stand on paved ground outside the historic garden, not at the Lower Belvedere.
The market is announced by its organiser, Event4You, and listed in the City of Vienna's event calendar. Pages that call it cancelled repeat a March 2025 statement by the federal landlord, the Burghauptmannschaft, which its own 2026 announcements replaced. The old operator, MAGMAG Events, now runs a new market at Schwarzenbergplatz. No site plan is out yet, and the gate advice online still describes the old market.

When is the Belvedere Christmas market open? Until 31 December, to 21:00
- Monday to Friday: 11:00 to 21:00.
- Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, including 8, 25 and 26 December: 10:00 to 21:00.
- 24 and 31 December: 11:00 to 17:00; closed on 1 January.
From 27 December it is one of three markets in our 2026 guide still open; Schönbrunn and the Prater Winter Market run until 6 January.
By day the theme is the imperial court (K&K stands for kaiserlich-königlich, imperial and royal), with traditional music and crafts.
Other listings differ: the Austrian National Tourist Office gives 22:00 and short hours from 24 to 27 December, the English list of Vienna's tourist board says 2 pm, and the Belvedere museum's page still shows about 40 stalls. We follow the organiser.
Stall prices are not published; the organiser's brief to stallholders sets drinks at €5 to €12 and food at €6 to €20.
How do you get there from the Naschmarkt? 16 to 19 minutes by U4 and tram D
From Kettenbrückengasse, our U4 station:
- Take the U4 one stop to Karlsplatz (2 minutes) and walk about 6 minutes through the station to the Oper/Karlsplatz stop. Tram D takes 8 minutes from there to Schloss Belvedere, 16 to 19 minutes in all. On our sample evening a tram left every 6 to 7 minutes.
- Or take the U4 two stops to Margaretengürtel and tram 18 to Quartier Belvedere (13 minutes), on the Gürtel side where the market moved. This takes 18 to 21 minutes and skips the walk at Karlsplatz.
- Or walk: about 2.1 km to the Schloss Belvedere stop, about 28 minutes by our estimate.
From either stop you still walk into the grounds. After the 21:00 close, tram D left every 5 to 10 minutes in our sample and the ride back took 18 to 20 minutes. Times are from the Wiener Linien timetable for Tuesday 24 November, valid until 12 December; it shows trams 1, 18, D and O at Quartier Belvedere, not the 62 the organiser lists.
Which other markets are near the Belvedere? 2 on one 2.4 km walk
From the Naschmarkt the Belvedere is the last of three markets on one line, about 2.4 km and 33 minutes on foot by our estimate:
- Art Advent at Karlsplatz, about 16 minutes on foot from Kettenbrückengasse: 13 November to 23 December 2026, crafts 12:00 to 20:00, food and drink 11:00 to 21:00.
- Weihnachtszauber at Schwarzenbergplatz, new this year, 6 minutes further: 13 November to 26 December, 11:00 to 21:00 (weekends from 10:00), to 16:00 on 24 December and 19:00 on 25 and 26 December.
- The Belvedere: 11 minutes further on foot, or 6 minutes by tram D.
Art Advent closes on 23 December, so the walk works until then.
Is the Naschmarkt a good base for the Belvedere market? Yes, for 3 markets on one line
A base by the palace is closer if the Belvedere is your only market. Our five apartments are a minute from the Naschmarkt, by Kettenbrückengasse, where the three-market walk starts. Our Advent weekends were booked by the end of October: look at Sunday to Thursday nights, or at 27 to 31 December.
